Steam has made a small but convenient change to the process of obtaining free PC games or DLC. This modification has garnered a significant amount of positive feedback (and some confusion in a few cases).
As a frequent Steam user, you may recall that claiming a free game on Steam required selecting the "play" option, which initiated the installation process. Although you could cancel the installation after a brief waiting period, it was an unnecessary hassle.
Valve has now introduced an "Add to Library" button, which can be clicked to add the item to your games library. This eliminates the need to cancel an unwanted installation, making the process much smoother.
Likewise, when obtaining free DLC, the game used to launch automatically. However, with the recent changes, you can simply click to acquire the DLC without launching the game, making the process much simpler and more convenient.
The recent small but useful modification to the Steam process has generated a lot of positive feedback. PC Gamer, our sister site, referred to it as an "absolutely majestic" change, and Redditors have echoed similar sentiments. Some are even questioning why Valve didn't implement this earlier.
However, a few gamers remain unimpressed and fail to understand the hype surrounding this change. As one Reddit user pointed out, closing the installation dialogue box was not a particularly difficult task.
Nevertheless, while this may seem like a minor improvement, it is a quality-of-life enhancement that we are pleased to see on Steam. It can be especially useful when there are numerous DLCs to acquire, which could otherwise discourage users from obtaining them.
